Novigrad is a northern Dalmatian town located in a deep bay on the southern coast of the Novigrad Sea with a protected natural harbor that has been used since prehistoric times. The maritime collection exhibits items related to the maritime heritage in which Novigrad plays a significant role.
Along with the objects, written documentary materials and photographs related to seafaring and the development of the port, naval sieges, steamship agencies, sailors in the service of the navy, transoceanic travelers and the development of maritime sports are exhibited. Models of ships that were present in Novigrad and the Novigrad Sea are also exhibited and they relate to the early modern age, small coastal navigation in the 19th century, and the Great War, during which part of the Austro-Hungarian merchant fleet was stationed in Novigrad and the Novigrad Sea.
Items related to the traditional fishing of Novigrad are also exhibited in the permanent exhibition. The older history of fishing is related to shellfish gathering and tuna fishing and after the Second World War, the catch of the small blue fish "srdelice", which characterized the fishing industry of Novigrad in the wider Adriatic area.
The fishing tools used from the middle of the 19th to the second half of the 20th century, parts of the ship and different nets are also exhibited and tuna fishing with a model of tuna fishing and the traditional Novigrad gajeta is specially presented.
