In 1387, the Venetian fleet besieged Novigrad from the sea side, when the Hungarian-Croatian Queen Maria of Anjou, fiancée of Sigismund of Luxembourg, daughter of King Ludovic of Anjou, and her mother Elizabeta Kotromanić were imprisoned in the Novigrad fortress. 24 galleys under the command of Ivan Barbadic maintained the naval blockade of Novigrad from January to April 6 of that year, i.e. until the day Queen Maria was released from captivity.
